Deeside wins Mini Bands

eeside's impressive start to the season continued at the North of Scotland Mini Bands competition at St Macher Academy, Aberdeen.

Reverting to only competing with one band this year after the successes of the 2 bands of 2006 proved to be the right choice as Deeside claimed top honours in Grade 3. Despite some ensemble issues around the first jig, the reviews from the audience and the judges were overwhelmingly positive.

Grade 2 continued in the same fashion, while overall maybe not as clean as the grade 3 performance had been it was good enough to net the band second behind only Bucksburn. The grade 2 performance was certainly more balanced. However, this is largely due to grade 3 only allowing 4 pipers.

A special mention must also go to our friends Kirkwall City, who placed first and second in grade 4. This was a brilliant achievement, and should go some way in making up for last year which saw them stranded on a ferry in high winds for 23 hours and ending up in Rosyth!

As if the day could not get any better, the band also made it down to the St Macher bar to see Scotland score the winner against Georgia! oh happy days are here again!....

...and now for the MSR!
