Mini Bands Review

The Aberdeen Mini Bands competition took pace on Saturday the 22nd of March with Deeside once again in attendance and very hopeful after its success at the quartets.

The competition was extremely busy with all seats being full and bands attending from throughout Scotland. Deeside were especially happy to welcome the Kirkwall City Pipeband with whom we have a great association.

The day saw some great playing and fierce competition from the start. Grade 4 was won by Buchan RBL with Oldmeldrum 'B' and Bucksburn & Dist N/J 'A' coming in second and third respectively.

Grade 3 was played at a very high standard with Oldmeldrum RBL 'A' taking the honours with RAF Kinloss second and Deeside in third place.

Grade 2 also saw Deeside in action with the band playing up a grade. Again the standard was high throughout with ASCO Buchan winning and Deeside in second place with a much stronger performance. Thrid place went to Turiff and District.

The day ended with Grade 1 and a very busy performance hall. The grade was won by the also grade 2 winners ASCO Buchan, with Grampian Police 'A' in second and Bucksburn & Dist 'B' in third.

All in all it was a very enjoyable with a lot of positives to be taken from all performances especially our 1st place in the Grade 3 piping. Once again Deeside would like to congratulate all winners at the competition and hope to see you all at Dumbarton!
